Most calabash gourd pipes are made with a meerschaum bowl, and that's due to the absorbent and heat-dispersing properties of the material. Pioneer also made many with ceramic bowls – such as this one – because it's similar to meerschaum in heat transfer properties, and is also absorbent. The main advantage to smoking from a ceramic bowl is that the crest of the bowl is glazed, so all you have to do is wipe it clean when you're finished smoking. The stem on this pipe is mostly clear of chatter, the top of the bowl is in great contition. This pipe has been very lightly smoked (and since cleaned), making this an *estate pipe.*
